Fun Facts You Definitely Didn’t Know About Biggie Smalls
Even the most hardcore Notorious B.I.G. fans won’t know some of these bits of trivia about the Brooklyn legend. If you’re a casual fan or a die hard, here are some interesting facts that shed some light on what Christopher G. Wallace was really like.
Biggie Smalls was “Notorious” for pranks
It was evidently a bad idea to fall asleep at the studio if Biggie was around. Some of his favorite pranks included waking people up by putting lit matches in their hands, or placing Lil’ Kim’s wig on their heads.
He wrote lines for Lil’ Kim, even if they were feminine!
Many of Lil’ Kim’s lines were actually ghostwritten by Biggie, who served as her rap mentor as well as her romantic partner. It’s funny to think there are recordings of Biggie Smalls rapping “got buffoons eating my p***y while I watch cartoons.”
He was buddies with Shaq
NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal has dabbled in rap music himself, so it comes as no surprise that he was tight with Biggie. Shaq revealed in an interview that he was supposed to be with Biggie the night he was killed, but accidentally fell asleep before the party. Biggie was featured on O’Neal’s 1996 song “You Can’t Stop the Reign.”
He gained attention working on a Mary J. Blige record
Biggie was featured on Mary J. Blige’s single “Real Love,” and the collaboration gained him the attention that eventually rocketed him to stardom. This single peaked at #7 on the Billboard charts and gave the B.I.G. the exposure needed to make him truly notorious.
He handed out cassette copies of “Ready to Die” from his house
Instead of trying to take over the game with high priced records and marketing schemes, Biggie was content to personally hand his music to fans from his own house. The line wrapped around his neighborhood!
